Record attendance for Designers' Open 2009

During the last weekend of October, more than 10 000 visitors experienced the 5th edition of Designers' Open |The Festival for Design Leipzig. 150 national and international designers presented their latest work in the fields of interior design, fashion design, industrial design and communication design at the 5000 square meter floor area of the centrally located Merkurhaus – a unique convenient store building. A vast programme with lectures, off-site event locations (DO/Spots), and parties in the evenings complemented the fair and attracted another 2 000 visitors. With more than 200 press accreditations, this year's media interest was higher than ever before. Television, Radio, specialized journals, daily papers and online magazines reported favorable and differentiated:

The Designers' Open Jury Award went to Magdeburg, to Halle (Saale), and Vienna. In the product design category, Schindelhauer Bikes won a software packet along with a graphics tablet sponsored by PC Ware and Quark for their belt drive bike. For their extraordinary Designer Sushi concept, a group of designers from Halle were honored. The prize: one week of summer workshops in Boisbuchet in Southern France. Cloed Prescilla Baumgartner of the label MILCH from Vienna will be enjoying a professional photo shooting with Zarth & Van der Borg. She convinced the jury with her fashion collection made of recycled old clothes.

Honorable Mentions were given to former award winner neongrau from Dresden, to Limpalux from Wuppertal, Women at Work from Zurich, and to the department of fashion design at School for Applied Arts Schneeberg.

SputnikTrend Award This year for the first time, the SputnikTrend Award was given. At the glamourous Designers Open opening ceremony, the “Walk on Air”, Heike Becker , a Burg Giebichenstein Halle (Saale) graduate, received the award. A specially designed “cup”, a porcelain button connected to a video spot production were presented to her.

Designers' Open the fifth: for trade visitors, retailers, producers, and everyone interested. A temporary design department store in the city centre. Projects of more than 150 designers to see from the areas of interior/ fashion/ industrial and communication/ design on foor floors and an area of 4000 m². Everything considered: child care, workshops, lectures, fashionshow, party acts, film presentations, and awards show.
